چکیده
Diabetes mellitus is the most common disorder of the endocrine system and affects nearly 16 million people in the United States and over 100 million people worldwide alone. Often, diabetes leads to such problems as renal failure, foot problems, heart disease, and vision impairment. According to the American Diabetes Association, the estimated cost of diabetes-related health care in the United States is approximately $91.8 billion annually, including $23.2 billion in direct medical costs . However, all current existing conventional methods of home blood glucose monitoring require obtaining a blood sample by pricking a fingertip with a needle or lancet and then use a sensor to a drop of the blood sample to indicate glucose levels 3, . The recent multicenter NIH studies have indicated that the health risks associated with diabetes are significantly reduced when the blood glucose levels are well and frequently controlled, indicating that it is prudent to measure the blood glucose as often as five or six times a day. Thus it is very important that proper monitoring be done by diabetics at home or at work . However, all current existing conventional methods of home blood glucose monitoring require obtaining a blood sample by pricking a fingertip with a needle or lancet and then use a sensor to a drop of the blood sample to indicate glucose levels.

This article reviews the development of non-invasive optical techniques for determination of blood glucose concentrations in diabetic patients. Early diagnosis and daily management are essential for ensuring the healthy life of diabetic patients. The determination of blood glucose concentration with common devices involves the chemical analysis of blood samples, which are obtained by pricking t...
متن کاملNon-Invasive Determination of Blood Glucose Levels by Optical Waveguide
Objective: Today, there are various non-invasive techniques available for the determination of blood glucose levels. In this study, the level of blood glucose was determined by developing a new device using near-infrared (NIR) wavelength, glass optical waveguide, and the phenomenon of evanescent waves. Materials and Methods: The body's interstitial fluid has made possible the development of ne...
متن کاملDetermination of Blood Glucose Concentration by Using Wavelet Transform and Neural Networks
Background: Early and non-invasive determination of blood glucose level is of great importance. We aimed to present a new technique to accurately infer the blood glucose concentration in peripheral blood flow using non-invasive optical monitoring system. Methods: The data for the research were obtained from 900 individuals. Of them, 750 people had diabetes mellitus (DM). The system was ...
متن کاملA New Approach to Present a Non-Invasive Optical Glucose Sensor Using Advanced Opto-Electronic Technology
Diabetic patients are generally advised to check their blood glucose level 5 to 7 times per day. Since the all current existing conventional methods of home blood glucose tests are painful, intimidating, laborious, and expensive, since they require obtaining a blood sample by pricking a fingertip with a needle or lancet. Thus it is necessary to develop a non-invasive blood glucose method which ...
متن کاملEvaluation of Fasting Blood Sugar via Salivary Glucose in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
Objective: Diabetes mellitus (DM) as an ongoing metabolic disorder worldwide is a major public health concern. Diagnosis of DM is depended on clinical symptoms and laboratory findings. Fasting blood glucose (FBG) monitoring is currently the most common diagnostic method, which is an invasive and stressful procedure. Most recently, the use of non-invasive, convenient methods like fasting salivar...
